According to International ecotourism society ecotourism is now defined as “responsible travel to natural areas that conserves the environment, sustains the well-being of the local people, and involves interpretation and education” (source).
A lovely definition that should be true for all kinds of traveling and tourism, not only for eco geeks.
Travelling has become incredible affordable to masses of people in recent years. But in many cases attractive locations have not been able to cope with increased number of visitors. Tourists in resorts with often outdated infrastructure are demolishing once clean and intact places.
When you think of environmentally friendly tourism think of several factors like:
- How and how far you travel
- Will you stay in a place that is able to handle your waste in a proper way
- How much and what do you consume
- How you plan and optimize your travel, traveling in the peaks is CO2 expensive
- Are there any better alternatives regarding CO2 footprint
- What are actually your goals when you leave home – travels, distant places or relaxing.
Think of these factors and choose environmentally friendly vacations. Join this group and commit to some actions. Share your experience with others.
